Celebrating the Vital Role of Nurses in America

LAKE ZURICH, Ill., May 6, 2015 – Fresenius Kabi proudly recognizes the 2015 National Nurses Week with its continued sponsorship of nationwide screenings of the award-winning documentary “The American Nurse” by director Carolyn Jones.

National Nurses Week, which celebrates the role nurses play in delivering the highest level of quality care to their patients, occurs May 6 through May 12, 2015. On May 6, more than 100 screenings of “The American Nurse” will take place across America and will include attendance by high school students and future nursing students courtesy of Fresenius Kabi.

The American Nurse” is one element of The American Nurse Project which also includes an award-winning book and a series of interviews all focused on raising the volume of the nurse’s voice in this country. “This project is an important investment in the future of nursing – which translates directly to an investment in the future of patients. The film and book show us first hand who nurses are and why we need them and more of them,” said Kate Judge, executive director of The American Nurses Foundation, the charitable and philanthropic arm of the American Nurses Association.

The film has won multiple awards including The American Academy of Nursing’s Excellence in Media Award and features the work and lives of five American nurses from diverse specialties.

The United States will need 1.1 million new registered nurses over the next eight years, according to the American Nurses Association (ANA). Demand for health care services is growing rapidly due to aging baby boomers, combined with millions of newly insured people and a shortage of primary care providers. A portion of all proceeds from the film and related book benefit the American Nurse Scholarship Fund, which was created in 2013 at the American Nurses Foundation through the support of Fresenius Kabi.
